It would be lovely...LOVELY...if the forums had a bit more moderating going on. Some sections have several thousand topics. Stupid people keep starting threads with their rants, and then once their ranting is done, they go totally off topic so that the entire thread is just taking up space in the Etsy forums. It's ridiculous! It's actually rather demoralizing. I don't check the forums "often" but when I do, I'd like to see topics that are actually useful. Plus, it's highly annoying when people use "text talk". It's not that hard to spell out "your" instead of "ur". "Ur" looks highly unprofessional, for one, plus it just makes you look like you can't spell. Take a typing class!! It will help you type faster, and it's actually easier to spell words right instead of searching out the 'u' and 'r' to make "ur". Goodness sakes people.
I really only participate in the forums to get my shop more exposure from other sellers, but I'm finding the forums more and more discouraging. I've posted a couple threads on there, one of which I was wanting feedback on my shop as a whole, and I have hardly gotten any feedback at all. I don't feel like I fit in there at all.
Just checked out the "Etc." section of the forums: 13770 PAGES of topics. Really?
Welcome!
Hello, and welcome to my blog. The intent of this blog is to allow you to kind of get to know me as an Etsy seller, but outside of the Etsy world. In my blogs I will express feelings (aww), thoughts, frustrations, etc. about my journey to becoming my own boss. Thanks for stopping by!

Stalemate
I'm not entirely sure what "stalemate" means exactly, but I know the term is used in chess and I know what the term "stale" means, so...I'm pretty sure that whatever "this" is...is a stalemate.
I'm just now listing the necklaces I made LAST weekend. It's probably not good to wait that long, but it's not exactly like my items are flying out the door. I'm the worst sales person Ever. (yes, with a capital E). I'm shy. I'm quiet. I don't want to just shove my product into people's faces, because I don't like that way of advertising. So how am I to get my name, etc out there? Still trying to figure that one out. Hopefully the Craft Fair at PSU on the 21st will help. It has to help. I can't see how it will hurt anything.

Long week
First week back at school (ugh). Never, EVER, take Historical Issues in Comp: Postmodern Rhetoric. Just trust me on that one.
I made two necklaces today. The 4th Annual Craft Fair at PSU is going to be on October 21st (a Thursday) which doesn't work the best for me, but I have to do it. I've been waiting for this thing since July! I still haven't come up with any type of business cards and I need to creat a sign of some sort for my booth. AH! I'm trying to make as many items as I can so I have an actual "shop".
I just found out how to make a "My Etsy" tab on my Facebook page. Woohoo! That's one more thing to get my name out there. :)

Productive day
Still no sales...but I did make 4 new necklaces, and two pairs of earrings today. I'm adding 5 necklaces to my shop right now (2 from yesterday) while the 4th waits to be photographed tomorrow. How's that for some math? HAHA!
*ahem*
I still get caught up on tags. I do keep a list of descriptive words, etc. that I use on basically every item (such as "jewellery" and "Halskette"...stuff like that, but some items I just have the hardest time trying to tag. It's the most dreaded part of the listing process for me.
I've been having a BOGO sale since Sept. 18th I think, and it ends on Oct. 1st. I was really sure I'd get 1 sale out of it, but so far no bites. :(

Conundrum
Ok, I have my shop on Etsy. But I know of an actual store in my area where I can pay $6/square foot for a "booth" and sell my stuff. So, my dilema is: Do I try to sell what I have in my Etsy shop at the other store? Or should I split up my stuff and sell some items on Etsy, and other items at the store? I would just hate for someone to order a necklace off my Etsy shop, but then have someone already buy it from the store in my area, thus ending up having to cancel the Etsy order. Make sense?
I know essentially nothing about owning my own business. I know I need to come up with new necklace designs, because I really don't have that many; just what's in my Etsy shop. But right now on Etsy, I'm only targeting a certain group: other sellers on Etsy. I mean how many people that buy on Etsy don't have their own shop? I've seen people that signed onto Etsy in 2008 and already have over 2000 sales. I want that. If I could turn this into somewhat of a money maker, this would literally be the perfect job for me. I have social anxiety as it is, so this would just be perfect for me. I just have to learn to be patient and not get down on myself. I have yet to make a sale, but it just takes the right person at the right time to find something in my shop that they like.
My pastor recently said something in his sermon about how if you pray for God to give you patience...that you won't like how that is done. God will give you situations that will force you to develop patience, and you might not like the process. Argh!
